The type of writing that I found most challenging was the persuasive because I have a really hard time staying on track and not getting carried away. When I write a persuasive piece I often find myself forgetting which side I am on. The writing I found the easiest was the ones where we had to choose a picture and make up a story for it. I thought it was quit simple to make up a story of your own instead of having rules and a formation to follow.
My favorite story was Imprisoned Emotions, this story was one of the first that I wrote but it gives a very sad and deep feeling and I like it a lot. I had to follow certain steps however I found it simple and I enjoyable to write. The writing assignment I wish that I could do over would be my Christmas story, I thought I could have done a better job at it and made it more creative and funny.
During the course we definitely did a lot a peer assessments, I found them pretty helpful most of the time but sometimes the person didn't write anything I could improve on which was kind of useless. I like assessing other peoples work because it gives me a reason and a chance to read their stories and what they have to say. I like assessing the opinion ones the best because I get to hear what they have to say.
Throughout the writing semester I find that my weakness has been getting ideas on to paper, i still have the difficulty but it is definitely not as bad as it use to be. I have a better understanding of what I want to say and how I want to say it.
The three most enjoyable activities I did was the two movie reviews and the story about the kids adventures. I liked writing the movie reviews because I got to state my opinion and how I felt about the movie, good or bad. Also i liked going online and researching what others had to say about that movie also. I enjoyed the kids adventure story because it was just very interesting to write, making up stories on why the kid was there and stuff.
The three activities I didn't really enjoy writing would have to be the video reviews, time capsule and life as a mosquito. I didn't enjoy the video reviews because I never really knew how to do it and what questions to answer about the video, also I didn't know what I wanted to put in the time capsule which made it a little more difficult and longer to do. Life as a mosquito was a easy assignment but at the same time I have no idea what its like to be a mosquito so it was a littler challenging.
I really enjoyed writing class this year especially the times we got to make videos with groups and i really liked working on The Blackville Talon. I also like the fact that I don't have to write an exam on it next week.

Jacob Black vs Edward Cullen
You’re caught in a love triangle between your werewolf best friend and you’re vampire boyfriend. Hard choice right? Actually it’s quite simple, you have two options. Live a long immortal life with a cold, heartless, gorgeous vampire while leaving all traces of your life and family behind, or live life to the fullest with your warm hearted loving tall, dark and handsome boyfriend who wants only the best for you while keeping your family close. Who would you choose, Jacob Black or Edward Cullen.

Drinking Age Should be Lowered {persuasive essay}
http://www.teenink.com/opinion/drugs_alcohol_smoking/article/48104/Drinking-Age-Should-Be-Lowered
The title of my article is "Drinking Age Should Be Lowered." I found it on the link given from the Blackville Writing site. www.teenink.com. It was written by Harold G from Wyoming, Mississippi. The main paragraph as well as the title of the piece of writing contains the thesis. The main idea in this article is that the drinking age should be lowered.
The first paragraph did catch my attention because it started out by listing off the reason's why people use alcohol. It Also explains that if the drinking age was lowered the percentage of underage drinking would also be lowered. The article has six paragraphs, all six of them relating to the main idea of lowering the drinking age. This writer involves some information in the article, for example it mentions the percentage of high school seniors that have used alcohol, "87% of high school seniors have used alcohol. That means that a large quantity of teens under the age of seventeen to eighteen have used alcohol before."
The author of this article doesn't present the other side of the argument. He mentions that in other country's it is lower but he doesn't completely present the other side. I agree to a certain extent, he is from the United States where drinking age is 21 and he wants is to be lowered to 18 or 19. I however live in Canada where the drinking age already is 19, so in a way I agree that is should be lowered and all drinking ages no matter where you live should be the same. The writer could have presented the other side of the story to strengthen its points and also use more statistics.
The conclusion of this article is decently strong, it provides another reason on why it should be lowered but also offers that if they lower it and it doesn't work out to put the drinking age back up to 21 because changed are made all the time. I did not find any grammar or spelling errors and I enjoyed reading this article, I thought it was a well done persuasive piece.

LIfe As A Mosquito~
Life as a Mosquito is actually the best way to live its super fun and interesting, however it also has it down side. Just think about it, they never run short of food because there is plenty of people and animals in the world to suck blood from, also you get to fly around with your friend mosquitos and have a good time. However you also have the down side which consists of getting eaten by animals, getting hit by fly swatters and running into the windows of moving vehicles. Male mosquitoes typically feed on nectar and plant juices while female mosquitoes have to feed on blood in order to be able to lay eggs. Did you know that Mosquitoes lay eggs in the water? That’s why mosquitoes always come out after it rains. Overall life as a mosquito is pretty decent, as long as you stay away from car windows and maybe drank nectar more than blood. That way you don not have to risk getting killed by a person.

How to Prove to Your Parents That You Are Responsible~
Step 1- Talk to your parents about what you want, explain to them that you are older now and want to start going out on the weekends with your friends.
Step 2- Try doing chores around the house show them that you are not afraid to work for what you want
Step 3- Try doing extra credit work at school or better yet study hard and get good grades. If your doing well in school, your parents will let you take time off from studying on the weekends to have fun.
Step 4- Try avoiding childish like "um" or "duh" because it makes you sound immature. However don't try impressing them by using super sophisticated words either, they may think you are being a show off and that's not very responsible.
Step 5- Avoid things they don't like, stay away from the bad crowds at school, don't watch the television show she hates, finds trashy and doesn't approve of.
Step 6- Go out of your way to compliment them or do an extra chore. This will get them on your good side, especially if you plan on going out that night this is a way of getting them in a extremely good mood so you have a better chance of them saying yes.
Step 7-Prove you can take care of yourself. If your parents come home from work, exhausted, don't pester them to make dinner for you. Make it for them!
Step 8- Be sure to do your daily chores and don't be lazy.
Step 9- Be punctual. If your curfew is at 11, be home by 10:30, that way your parents will be so pleased they might even set your curfew back a few hours giving you more time for fun. If your school starts at 8, wake up at 6:30 instead of at 7:30, that way you won't be cranky and rushed and have to beg your parents for a ride.
Step 10- Let them know all of your plans in advance, don't tell them at the last minute and make them feel sorry for you. Be mature about it, if there's a big party you want to go to, ask a week in advance that way they have time to think about it. Also this is a plus because during that week you could due all of the steps I mentioned above and get on their good side.
Now that you have read all ten steps on how to prove to your parents that you are responsible I hope you succeed greatly and have a great teenage life.

Video Review.
The video I chose from CBC News is a video about a local girl Hilary Bonnell who went missing in September and body was found in December. The video is called "NB 1st- degree murder charge." I chose this video because I was aware of what happened to her and I wanted to know a little bit more about it and what they came to as a conclusion.
In this video there is two different people talking about the case, asking and answering each others questions. My area of the talon is News and Features, I could use this video as a guide for when I am doing Viewpoint and interveiwing different people on certain topics.

**Finding Forrester Movie Review **
Finding Forrester, starring Rob Brown and Sean Connery is a movie written by Mike Rich and directed by Gus Van Sant. This Columbia Pictures film opened in December of 2000 in 200 theaters around the world, it marketed a worldwide total of $80,049,764.
Finding Forrester is a movie about a black American teenager by the name of Jamal Wallace who is a very talented writer and basketball player. He is invited to attend a private school and happens to befriend a famous writer William Forrester after breaking into his house as a challenge from one of his friends. Jamal and William begin to grow a strong bond as William helps Jamal with his writing skills, however after Jamal passes in one of his papers her wrote with William disaster strikes.
Some films that you may be familiar with also directed by Guss Van Sant include Milk staring Sean Penn and Josh Brolin, Elephant staring Alex Frost, Good Will Hunting written by Ben Afflect and starring Matt Damon and Robin Williams and Last Days a fictionalized account of the last days of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain.
The acting in this film was very well played, I thought everything from the clothes they wore to the way they pronounced their words was fantastic and realistic.
The theme of the film is family as far as I am concerned, I think what Guss Van Sant is trying to get across is that just because someone isn't blood it doesn't mean they aren't family. Family can be anyone that is close to your heart, as long as they mean a lot to you and you care about them they are considered family.
The ending to this movie is shocking and will leave you speechless. I suggest that you see this movie right away, if you've already seen it then see it again because I feel that this movie has a very valuable lesson to be learned. This movie not only expresses equality between races but it also encourages you to not give up on your dreams.

Bonus- Hospital Tour
Yesterday myself and my class took a tour of our local hospital. As sad as it is for me to say my favorite part of the tour was the Morgue. I know what you're thinking, gross right? How could anyone enjoy a morgue. I personally think it is fascinating, not the part about cutting dead bodies open but the fact that it's all a mystery. You get to solve the mystery of how that person died like in CSI or some other hospital like show. However I'm not sure I could actually take up a career in it considering you would see some pretty awful sights, plus it would be heartbreaking to have to call up the family and tell them the end results.

These things will change, can you feel it now ? **
In the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird there is a really strong sense of racism in Maycomb County. All people of a different race is looked down on, and only considered to be slaves instead of normal human beings. Racism was displayed through the case of Tom Robinson. when the town finds out that Atticus is going to stand for a black man, they start bad talking him and calling him bad names. Also kids started to bully the children of Atticus. Tom Robinson was found guilty, however only because the jury thought that a white mans word is better than a blacks.
I personally think a lot of things have changed since the time of To Kill a Mocking Bird, for one black people can now actually walk the streets without getting hated on in most country's. I think the novel probably inspired a lot of people who read it, it's the kind of novel that makes you question your ways. Why should someone be treated differently based on color?
Not only has society changed about racism but also sexism and people are not judged based on class as much anymore either. Obviously there is still problems with discrimination in the world today, I'm not saying that there's not, but there has defiantly been a big change. The president of America is even black, which is quit the accomplishment in society I must say. As people in the world grow they begin to take bigger steps in stoping discrimination. Just think, 40 years ago, black people were treated like animals being used only for work, now they have actually jobs and can go to school and university and live normally.

I now have my weapons categorized from A to Z: from "Axe" to... "Zee other axe."
If I could trade off places with anyone from a fiction literature of film I would pick Buffy Summers from "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." I would pick Buffy Summers because she gets to save the world form being brutally massacred, she's a really great person and has a great group of friends that support everything she does.
Buffy Summers works hard day and night to keep the world safe from vampires, demons and the forces of darkness. She has some wicked fighting skills, she trains with Giles her watcher. Giles is basically Buffy's father figure, he supports everything she does and he always has her back. Buffy has killed more vampires and demons than I can count, sometimes she uses weapons like wooden stakes and spears however sometimes she uses just her bare hands.
Buffy is super pretty and funny. Through out every season you get to see more of Buffy's sense of humour.
Buffy: No. When you kiss me, I wanna die.
Buffy has 6 friends that she has a really strong connection with. Her sister Dawn Summer, her ex-demon friend Anya, Zander Harris, her watcher Giles, Spike her vampire/lover and witch friend Willow Rosenburg. Her friends are always there for backup when she has to many demons to take on at once.
From the killer punches to the stakes to the heart, Buffy is an amazing Vampire Slayer. Her friends are awesome and super supportive and she has a great sense of humour. I think it would be awesome to trade lives with her, mostly because I want to know how it feels to be a vampire slayer.

Moody Twilight Range in the Winter with Ursula ~ (5 out of 10)
I am actually a big Twilight fan, I have read all the books in the series more than once, I watched and own both movies that are out so far. Most girls drool over Edward the sparkly vampire, but I'd take Jacob over sparkles any day. Jacob and Bella have more chemistry than Edward and Bella do, I find that Bella can be more of herself around Jacob. Edward just brings drama, and almost gets her killed several times, and Jacob is the one that's there for her when Edward takes off and leaves her with a broken heart.
What is your mood today?

My mood today is kind of indifferent because, first of all I thought school was going to be cancelled today since it snowed and freezing rained last night. I figured they would give us one last snow day since we didn't have many this year at all. Also I have a throat infection and was out of school for 2 days, so this is first day back which means I have some catching up to do. But on the bright side I got to see my friends.
The perfect mode of transportation. If you could have any car what kind of car would it be and explain why.

If I could have any car, it would defiantly be a Range Rover. My Range Rover would be black, with chrome rims for the summer and black rims for the fall and winter. It would also have chrome door handles and all the windows would be tinted super dark.
*Winter - love it or hate it?

I sort of have mixed feelings about winter. When it first starts to snow around Christmas time I'm always really excited. All through January I do the normal winter activities like slide, snowmobile and play hockey. But the end of winter is always a drag, when all the hockey games are over and the snow isn't as fun anymore around March I just want it to be over. For instance right now, I hate it because in a week it will be the beginning of April and spring already started yet its STILL snowing.
*Super hero

If I could be a super hero or villain I would be Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Ursula is a octopus that dead set on Triton the Mer-King. Ursula is a evil manipulative "sea witch." I think it would be cool to be Ursula because she has 8 legs, and it would be so simple to multitask with 8 legs ! Also I'd get to meet Ariel the little mermaid, even though I want to kill her. Ursula is so precious with her Eal sidekicks.

Dear Diary ! :D
Dear Diary
Today was the most excitingest day of my life! It was like a Fairytale, I got to go to a BUNCH of cool places in my neighborhood. My momma packed me a lunchbox, full of all kind of awesome stuff, like scooby doo snacks, bear paw cookies and a fruit punch ! I thought it was going to be to long to walk, so I decided to take my brand new Dirt bike. Well actually its a normal bike, that just looks like a dirt bike, since my mommy says I'm not old enough to get a real one yet.
First I got to play hide and go seek with the raccoons in my front yard ! It was so awesome, I even won! The raccoon's always hid in the garbage can, so I found them every time. Except it smelt like my little brothers poopy diapers. I started to get hungry so I hauled out my Bear paw cookies, the raccoons starting going crazy! I jumped on my bike really quick and started peddling. That's when I realized the moving truck, so I made my way across the street to introduce myself.. When I got there, the mom told me to go around back and meet Cody. I was expecting to see a little boy, but when I got around there was only a little girl. She was so cute, she had cute little blonde curls and was wearing the prettiest dress, it was love at first sight. I asked her to come play in the tent with me and she said she would because her mom said that she needed to make new friends around here. Cody didn't have a bike yet tho, so I left my bike there and we walked. Weplayed in the tent for a while, but then we got bored and decided to go to the dog house and play with Sammy. When we got to the dog house, Sammy ( that's the dog's name) was no where to be found ! All of a sudden I heard Cody roaring at me to "DUCK, DUCK JOHNNY DUCK!" but when I looked around, I didn't even see any ducks ! That's when Sammy jumped off the roof of the dog house and onto my head, I started twirling around trying to get him off, but he was stuck. Sammy's not a big dog, but it's for sure a fat dog, but finally Cody got it off my face and we started to run. Unfortunately Sammy followed, he was running so fast the only way i could see out was jumping the fence, so we did it. I gotta say I kinda nervous, I never jumped a fence before and I didn't think I was tall enough to make it. Lucky for us, me and Cody both landed in the baby play pin, we almost squished my little brother though, he started crying real hard. My dad couldn't even stop him cause he was too busy mowing the grass. That's when i realized that my favorite smell in the whole world is freshly cut grass, it makes my nose tingle. It started getting late, and the big yellow circle in the sky was going away so I thought I would be a nice boy and walk Cody home, plus I needed to get my bike. We were almost there, when Cody went over on her ankle and couldn't walk anymore, so I saw a wheelbarrow and thought i would push her in that. It was a little dirty, and smelled like rotten eggs, but she couldn't walk, and I wasn't strong enough to carry her so she had to use it. Finally I told Cody goodnight, and biked home. It was such a fun day, and i can't wait to see what adventures me and Cody will have tomorrow and the next day and the next day and the next day !
Bye for now!
Johnny :)

Mario Hell
When you picture hell, its usually all flames and redness with a devil that has a fork tail and pointy horns, well that's not how I see it. I'm sure you have all at one point played Mario right? It was a big hit during our childhood and still is. Well when I picture my hell, it's more like Bowser's castle. In heaven you need a key, well I think in hell you should to, so that's why you have to get across a lava obstacle course. If you fall, you start over, since of coarse you can't die twice. Like in the game, when you get across the lava, big spikes, swinging objects and unstable bridges, you receive your key to the dark gloomy mansion.

Time Capsule
If my community was to decide to store a time capsule, the first item I would put in it would be, something that reflects on the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. Perhaps maybe a pair of mittens or a DVD of the events. I think this is important because the Olympics were a really big event for Canada this year and its something that should be remembered for years upon years. The second item I would place in the time capsule would be a burnt CD, that way the people in the future could hear the kind of music people listened to in 2010. I would also put pictures of the community, so people could see the changes that happened threw the years. I would also put in a album of pictures I took myself because I love taking pictures. Also last but not least I would put in my 3 favorite books " The Last Song" & "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks and also "Eclipse" by Stephanie Meyer, the third book of the Twilight series.
Dear 2110
My name is Carly, I live in New Brunswick, Canada. I listen to a lot of music, and my favorite thing to do is play sports, my family consists of only four people. It is currently March 14, 2010. If you are reading this is obviously way in the future, so I thought I would tell you about some things that are happening around here recently.
Lately there has been a lot of earthquakes, none nearby really but they are defiantly effecting the people around here and everywhere in the world. Also we just hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics here in Canada. I'm proud to say it was a huge hit, and Canada came out of it with the most gold medals, we won gold medals for both men and women's hockey!
I hope you enjoyed the things I left in this time capsule, and learned more about the year 2010. Thanks for reading my letter :)
Sincerely
Carly ~

Five Best TV Shows
People watch TV shows because they are interesting and full of drama, they keep you watching by cliffhangers. If the TV show you are watching is interesting enough it will have you excited for it all week, it can even be the reason you get up in the morning. Some people will watch a show just because a certain person is in it, but I think its pointless to watch a show you are not interested in just to see that certain pretty face. I'm about to tell you the five BEST TV shows on TV right now, the kind of shows that will make your eyes pop out of your sockets.
Gossip Girl is a drama television series focusing on the lives of young adults and teenagers, as they struggle with the everyday battles of life. It is based on the book series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegaser. It premiered fall of 2007, and is currently on its third season. It was renewed for a fourth, fifth and sixth season. It is expected to end May 20, 2013.
One Tree Hill is the number one show because it is my personal favorite. I've been watching it ever since season one. One Tree Hill is a teen, young adult television series which premiered in 2003. It takes place in the fictional town Tree Hill, North Carolina and follows the lives of two half brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott. Their relationship evolves from heartless enemies to loving brothers. The first four seasons follow their years in High School, the beginning of the fifth season was 4 years later. It is currently on its Seventh season and is in the talks of being renewed for a eighth season.

Imprisoned Emotions~
It's coming on the beginning of April now , and the sweet spring breeze is all I feel walking through the city park, alone. I finally pursued my dream of being a photographer, every other day I am at the park taking family photos, or wedding photos, sometimes even dog portraits. All I can think of when I see the new happy couple smile, is the night you proposed to me, at the beach downtown two summers ago. It was cold and wet and the ring didn't quite fit my slim finger, but it was still perfect, because I knew I could be with you forever.
Some days I feel like I should just give up, I don't get out much anymore. My friends know better than to call, they know I will not answer. I just lay in my bed wondering what your up to up there in the sky, if maybe someday we will meet again, or if that cold spring fight was the last time I would ever hear your voice. When i do leave the house it's usually just to the city park, it's peaceful there, it almost sooths my torn heart from agony. I know that I should at least try to find another, but I don't think I will ever have feelings for someone as strong as my feelings were for you. The night we met, when I looked into your chocolate brown eyes, nothing else mattered.
My job is to capture the happy moments of others, they always ask the same questions, " Do you have a family?" " Are you married?" even the most common "How are you?" makes me quiver. It's true what they say, you don't know what you got till it's gone, I am an example of that. Every second of everyday I regret the hatred in my voice that night you sped off into the moonlight. I regret running away from our problems instead of trying to sort them out, or freezing when Isaw your beaten and broken body law on the ground from the accident.

Interviewing Strategies
One strategy that is really important about interviewing, is to always prepare your questions beforehand, that way you won't waste time and you will sound more professional. It is also very important to be flexible with your time, make sure that if the person calls you back, you are there to answer and not play "phone tag". Make sure everything is spelled right, ask the person for the correct spelling of their name or other details, that way when you are publishing the interview you won't have any trouble with typos. It's also very important that if you are quoting the person, that the quote is exactly right. If the person wishes to stay anonymous then respect their decision and keep them unnamed. Last but not least, always thank the person for their time spent talking with you and be polite.

Pot Hidden In Jesus Pictures
The sample I have selected is about a drug bust along the U.S - Mexico border . The women responsible tried to smuggle 30 pounds of pot across the border in pictures of Jesus. I feel it is effective because it is very informative. What I like about the article is that it has more than one person's perspective on the case. After reading this article, I think it will help me with my own writing because I now know that if the title of my story is interesting and eye catching, more people will read it.

Writing Inventory
Sometimes in my spare time, I will come up with crazy ideas and decide to write a story about it, sometimes they would be long, other times maybe just a few paragraphs, however it's still getting my ideas on to paper. I like to read novels about love and life lessons. One of my favorite authors is Nicholas Sparks, Scott Westerfeld and Stephanie Meyer.
The kind of writing i enjoy writing is descriptive storeys that have meaning, the ones about life situations. Writing that i find challenging is persuasive, because I am not very good at persuading people. When i was about twelve I wrote a 6 page story about a girl in a Coma , I was very proud of it. I usually do about two or three draft copies of a story before i write the final copy, just to make sure there are no mistakes and that it all makes sense.
My weakness as a writer, is getting the ideas on to paper. Sometimes I find it hard to get it down exactly the way I see it in my head. I write about all kinds of things, but my favorite ones to write are the ones about life itself. My goals for this semester is to improve in idea making, and write a really good story.

Re: APPLICATION FOR SPORTS
Dear Mr.Carter
I am interested in applying for the position of Sports in The Blackville Talon.
Through out my Middle and High School years I have participated in many organized sports, including volleyball, basketball and soccer. Also outside of school I play hockey. I have a strong interest for sports and I think that this position would suit me well.
I would very much enjoy being a part of The Blackville Talon and I am available at any time. If anything, my years in school have taught me responablitly, and you can rely on me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerly

The Strength To Leave
William laid on his bedroom floor playing with his toys, trying to drown out all of the noise. His parents seemed to be fighting a lot lately. He was ten now, old enough to understand what was going on. He would sometimes hear lamps being thrown at the wall out of frustration, and the smack of his father’s hand hitting his mothers face.
They would fight over the usual, not having enough money, the bills not being paid, and if his mother accidently burnt his father’s steak he would rage like a mad man. William figured this was all caused from his father drug addiction, which has recently become worse since he found out his sixteen year old daughter was pregnant and ran away from home.
He sometimes heard his mother crying herself to sleep, and he would go cuddle up with her and tell her everything was going to be alright. He knew it was a lie, but he didn’t know what else to say. He loved his mother more than anyone or anything in the entire world and it saddened him to see her this way. She was wounded, her eyes puffy and red like cherries from crying, bruises all over her body the size of tennis balls. William wondered when his mother would finally get the strength to pack up and leave.
He remembered when they use to be a happy family, when he could look at his parents and see the love in their eyes when they looked at each other. He remembered their summer vacation to Florida, when his legs would get tired while standing watching the Disney fireworks, his father would lift him up onto his shoulders. He wondered if they would ever do such a thing again, or if the memories he had of them as a family now were the only ones he would ever have.
William matured quickly for his age, he learned to stand up for his mother when she was in to much pain to do it for herself. However he still had the times that all he wanted to do was break down and cry. The whole situation hurt him emotionaly just as much as it hurt his mother physically. He sometimes thought about running away, but he didn’t have the heart to leave his mother behind.
Three months of screaming later, when his father was away in Cuba on a business trip, his mother finally got the courage and strength to pack her and William’s things and leave. They left the house with pride, leaving all the memories behind to haunt William’s father. They had a bright future ahead of them, and nothing was going to slow them down this time.
